A BUNDABERG music student may be on track to reach the heights of Gladys Moncrieff after passing a prestigious national music examination.

Bundaberg Christian College student Jordan Bailey achieved his Associate Diploma in Music from the Australian Music Examination Board for his work playing the saxophone.

And his teacher of seven years has backed up the claims of her student's potential, stating "he will be famous one day".

Corinne Darby, who has been a music teacher for more than 20 years and has worked with Jordan for seven of them, said Jordan's talent had been noticed since primary school.

"It's very rare," Ms Darby said.

"This is the first time a Bundaberg Christian College student has ever reached this level of achievement."

Only about 140 budding musicians ever reach this standard every year in Queensland.

Jordan, who will go to Brisbane in March to accept the award, has written several original songs, some of which are on YouTube.

"I have a big sense of achievement," Jordan said.

"I'm looking at going to the conservatorium of music in Brisbane or maybe go into the Navy band program next."
