Dear Hillary,
Your husband asked me the other day to thank you for all your hard work and frankly Hillary, I am honored to do so.
I?m not sure you are aware that he sent out an email to all your followers. Did you get one too?? It urged me to, ?Thank Hillary for making our country and our world, stronger, safer and better.?
I need no urging.
Hillary you speak for post 50-year-old women. We call ourselves BA50s and we share our inspirations, successes, business launches, and concerns about ourselves, our aging parents, our adult children, and more on our on-line magazine. We are Better After 50 because we choose to be, and so are you.
We invite you to join our movement and participate with us as we learn from each other about navigating this next phase of our lives. You can subscribe here http://betterafter50.com.
We can clearly see you are not slowing down. There is important work to be done and you are committed to doing it. Your steady focus on issues concerning women and girls puts you front and center as a mentor for me and many of my peers. I can?t be 100 percent sure why you launched your website http://hillaryclintonoffice.com/?but perhaps you will be racing to the White House in 2016? (Just a guess.)? Got my fingers crossed.
I?m writing you this letter because you have made yourself so accessible that I believe you will read it and even respond. That?s what makes you so unique. (I know you write old-fashioned thank you notes too.)
Since we?re celebrating Valentine?s Day this week, I wanted to write you a letter of appreciation (also because your Bill asked me to).
I love the way you deal with mansplainers ? did you see this?
How to deal with a mansplainer starring Hillary Clinton in gifs
You give women the courage they need to not feel threatened by old school codgers who bully and blame without seeing the big picture.
You are so real. I saw you speak at a fundraiser on Martha?s Vineyard when you were running for president and it was the first time I felt like I was hearing ?one of us.? Why? Because not only are you a strong, smart woman, you make sense. You don?t politicize your positions, you state them plainly: women?s issues, gun control, health care, immigration.
Hillary, you ooze optimism and live in the world of possibility?and that combined with your work ethic gives me faith in our political system. It makes me feel hopeful about America?s future. I know when you take on an issue, you will do everything possible to make it happen.
Thank you Hillary for being a great role model. Young women and we BA50s need people who we can emulate. Here?s what you remind us to do by just being you:
- Care about those around us
- Stand by our beliefs
- Listen with full attention
- Do our homework
- Bring a sense of humor to our work
- Empower, encourage and inspire other women
Thank you Hillary for reminding me that there is always time to do more work. Your energy appears endless and that?s inspiring. You always manage to show up, and as Woody Allen said, ?80 percent of success in life is showing up.?
In a recent article in The Atlantic they calculated the miles covered in your four years as Secretary of State:
? Total miles traveled: 956,733
? Days of travel, in all: 401
Wow! Thank you for your non-stop shuttle diplomacy because I believe it worked to (positively) shift the image of this country in the eyes of the world. ?And it certainly worked to broker a cease-fire in Gaza.
Most politicians appear to be talkers but you Hillary are a doer.? Our leaders always say how much we care about democracy and human rights in the world, but you have managed to walk the walk until you reach the finish line.
So Hillary, This week, as we celebrate those we love, my wish ?is that you uncork the bubbly, ?have some chocolate, hug that fabulous husband of yours and feel the love you have earned from your fans.
With love and heart,
Felice Shapiro
