nene-and-greg-leakes-wedding

Nene Leakes is at the center of some drama again. This time it?s over her pricy summer nuptials!

Via Baller Alert reports:

Nene Leakes owes big for her lavish second wedding to husband, Gregg Leakes. Celebrity wedding planner, Tiffany Cook of Dream Design Weddings, was hired by the Leakes family to coordinate Nene & Gregg?s wedding on June 22, 2013. The wedding is set to appear on a Bravo TV special in September.
Tiffany Cook claims that NeNe?s budget for the wedding was $1.8 million and was promised 15% of the entire wedding budget PLUS fees design and execution of the wedding PLUS travel expenses to the event. Cook claims she was due $270k (the 15%) PLUS another $889,900 (design fees) PLUS $1,750 (4 coach tickets from Florida to Georgia).

According to Cook, NeNe did fork over the initial down payment of $18,750 but she hasn?t seen a penny since so she?s suing for the remaining $1,142,900 balance PLUS damages.

Well damn, isn?t she making $800K a year filming for ?Real Housewives?? And why isn?t Bravo footing the bill ? wasn?t all this lavishness for the sake of reality TV?

Dozens dead as Morsi supporters, Egypt security forces clash in Cairo: activists

Egypt saw its bloodiest day since President Morsi was forced from office. At least 80 people are confirmed dead, but other reports have the number in the hundreds after police clashed with supporters of the ousted president? in what could be the start of a sustained and violent crackdown.? NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

By Ayman Mohyeldin, Marian Smith and Daniel Arkin, NBC News

In the wake of violent clashes that killed dozens,?Secretary of State John Kerry said Egypt is at "a pivotal moment" more than two years since the uprising ousted the longtime President Hosni Mubarak.?

In a statement released Saturday, Kerry?said Egyptian officials "have a moral and legal obligation" to respect the right of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. He added that the continued violence sets back efforts of "reconciliation and democratization," and affects regional stability.?

Also on Saturday, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel spoke by phone with Army chief Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi?to express deep concern about the security situation and to encourage that restraint be exercised during this "difficult period."

"The United States believes that the current transition needs to be marked by inclusivity, that Egyptian authorities should avoid politicized arrests and detentions, and take steps to prevent further bloodshed and loss of life,"?Pentagon press secretary George Little said.

Dozens of people were killed early Saturday when riot police fired on protesters supporting deposed Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi in Cairo, activists said.

It was not clear exactly how many people were dead Saturday evening, but the Anti-Coup Alliance, an umbrella coalition of Morsi supporters, said that at least 100 people were killed and 5,000 others were injured in the chaotic clash near the Nasr City neighborhood of the capital.

Many of the bodies of those killed were still at a field hospital near the pro-Morsi protest site and were not officially registered with health officials. The official death toll of 21 was based only on bodies tallied at backlogged government morgues.

If the death toll of 100 or more is confirmed, it would make the clash the most lethal incident since Morsi was ousted by the military July 3. It comes nearly three weeks after over 50 people, primarily Muslim Brotherhood supporters, died in a similar outburst of bloodshed.

The violence reportedly started after hundreds of Morsi supporters moved out of their encampment outside of the Rabaah al-Adawiyah Mosque late Friday. One group began to pitch tents on an adjoining boulevard, where they planned to camp out for at least three days, said Mahmoud Zaqzouq, a Muslim Brotherhood spokesman, according to The Associated Press.

Meanwhile, Zaqzouq said, another group of protesters moved toward a nearby overpass, where they were met with a barrage of tear gas from police forces, followed by hails of bullets. Protesters counterattacked by throwing rocks and stones at the security forces, according to the AP.

"There were snipers on the rooftops, I could hear the bullets whizzing past me," Ahmed el Nashar, 34, told Reuters, fighting back tears.

"Man, people were just dropping."

A supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood holds a mask of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi during a rally around Rabaa Adawiya square where they are camping, in Cairo on July 26.

Doctors at a nearby makeshift hospital were flooded by a deluge of casualties as activists rushed bodies away from the carnage, according to The Associated Press.?The majority of the?dead were struck in the head, some between the eyes, according to Reuters.

Hundreds of people participated in rival rallies in various Egyptian cities on Friday, just days after al-Sisi urged Egyptians to hold rallies to give the military a ?mandate? to confront weeks of violence triggered by his overthrow of Morsi, according to Reuters.

But Brotherhood activists told Reuters they would?not?back?down?and warned of even more violence if security forces did not relent.

"We will stay here until we die, one by one," Ahmed Ali, 24, told Reuters, as he helped tend to casualties at the field hospital.

"We have the examples of Algeria and Syria in our minds. We don't want it to become a civil war. If we take up arms it might become one. This is a religious belief," he said.

Throngs of Brotherhood-aligned activists were massed in downtown Cairo on Friday evening, where they chanted pro-Morsi slogans, some waving the Egyptian flag.

Morsi under investigation
Morsi, who was elected by a narrow margin in June 2012 in the country?s first democratic vote, has been hidden from the public since he was ejected from power. Mena news agency reported Friday that he would be detained for 15 days while a judge reviewed allegations against him. It marks the first formal detention since he was deposed, according to Al Jazeera.

According to Reuters, the probe stems from charges that he conspired with Palestinian Islamist group Hamas to escape jail during the 2011 uprising against Mubarak, killing prisoners and officers, kidnapping soldiers, and lighting buildings on fire.

?At the end of the day, we know all of these charges are nothing more than the fantasy of a few army generals and a military dictatorship,? El-Haddad said, according to Reuters. ?We are continuing our protests on the streets.?

The U.S. was ?deeply concerned? by reports that Morsi had been ordered to be detained for more than two weeks, said State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

Supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi, throw stones towards opponents of Morsi and security forces during clashes on a bridge in downtown Cairo, Egypt on Monday,

"We of course are deeply concerned by reports that an Egyptian court has ordered the detention of Mr. Morsi," she said. "I can't speak to the specific charges, but we do believe that it is important that there be a process to work towards his release. Clearly this process should respect the personal security of him and take into account the volatile political situation in Egypt, and that's where our focus is."

Nearly 200 people, mostly supporters of Morsi, have died in the last month, according to Al Jazeera.?

The West has become increasingly alarmed by the course the country of 84 million people has taken. Washington this week said it delayed delivery of four F-16 fighter jets to Cairo and called on the Egyptian army to exercise "maximum restraint and caution" during Friday's rallies," reported Reuters.

The U.S. has not made a determination on whether a military coup took place in Egypt, which avoids a decision on whether U.S. aid should be cut off to Egypt.

"It is not in our national interest to make such a determination," State Department spokeswoman Psaki said on Friday, adding the law didn't require that a formal determination be made.?

If the administration were to determine a coup had occurred when Morsi was ousted, the $1.5 billion of military and economic assistance the U.S. provides Egypt would be required by law to stop.?

Catherine Chomiak and Elizabeth Chuck of NBC News and Reuters contributed to this report.

U.S. bans new home health, ambulance providers in three regions

(Reuters) - The U.S. government on Friday said it would temporarily ban new home health providers and ambulance suppliers from enrolling in Medicare, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program in three areas of the country, citing the risk of fraud.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) said the bans will apply to home health agencies in the Miami, Florida and Chicago, Illinois metropolitan areas as well as ambulance suppliers in the Houston, Texas area.

"While maintaining patients' access to care, we are putting would-be fraudsters on notice that we will find and stop them before they can attempt to bill Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP," CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner said in a statement.

The agency said its decision was triggered by a number of factors, including a disproportionate number of providers and suppliers relative to beneficiaries, a rapid increase in enrollment applications from providers and suppliers and extremely high utilization.

During the ban on new providers, CMS said it, along with the affected states, will continuously monitor access to care to ensure that beneficiaries are receiving the care they need.

The agency said that over the last four years the Obama Administration has recovered over $14.9 billion in healthcare fraud judgments, settlements, and administrative impositions.

ALK-Rearranged Lung Cancer in Chinese: A Comprehensive Assessment of Clinicopathology, IHC, FISH and RT-PCR

by Yuan Li, Yunjian Pan, Rui Wang, Yihua Sun, Haichuan Hu, Xuxia Shen, Yongming Lu, Lei Shen, Xiongzeng Zhu, Haiquan Chen

Approximately 3?7% of non-small cell lung cancers harbor an anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene fusion, constituting a new molecular subtype of lung cancer that responds to crizotinib, an ALK inhibitor. Although previous studies have evaluated ALK-rearranged lung cancers, the comprehensive analysis of lung cancer in Chinese has not well assessed. Herein, we identified 44 cases of ALK-rearranged samples by fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in a large number of surgically resected lung cancers. All 44 ALK-rearranged lung cancers were adenocarcinomas, with 2 cases having additional focal squamous components. The goal was to analyse the clinicopathological features of ALK-rearranged lung adenocarcinomas. Our data showed that a cribriform structure, prominent extracellular mucus and any type of mucous cell pattern may be either sensitive or specific to predict an ALK rearrangement. We used FISH as the standard detection method. We compared the ALK rearrangement accuracy of FISH, RT-PCR and IHC. RT-PCR could define both the ALK fusion partner and the fusion variant, but seemed unable to detect all translocations involving the ALK gene. It is noteworthy that IHC using the D5F3 antibody (Cell Signaling Technology) showed higher sensitivity and specificity than the ALK1 antibody (Dako). Therefore, we conclude that IHC remains a cost-effective and efficient technique for diagnosing ALK rearrangements and that D5F3 can be the optimal screening antibody in clinical practice.

Ohio GOP lawmaker contesting fraud, theft charges
July 26, 2013 13:46 EDT

CINCINNATI (AP) -- A southwest Ohio lawmaker that authorities say misled investors and used their money for personal gain has entered a not guilty plea.

State Rep. Pete Beck is free on a $50,000 bond, with a Hamilton County Common Pleas court hearing scheduled Aug. 12. The certified public accountant from Mason waived a scheduled arraignment appearance Friday.

The 60-year-old Republican was indicted last week on charges including theft, securities fraud, making misrepresentations and selling securities in an insolvent company without full disclosure.

Beck has denied allegations against him as "scandalous" through his attorneys. He also has brushed away calls for his resignation.

UK recovery gains steam with 0.6 pct growth in Q2

LONDON (AP) ? The British economy grew by 0.6 percent in the second quarter compared with the previous three month period, official figures showed Thursday in the latest sign that Europe's third largest economy is on a firmer footing.

The increase in the country's annual gross domestic product, as reported by the Office for National Statistics, was double the previous quarter's rate but in line with market expectations. Services, agriculture, manufacturing and construction industries all contributed to the quarterly rise.

Despite the increase, the U.K. economy is still smaller than it was before the deepest recession since World War II started in 2008 following an international financial crisis that had its roots in bad banking practices around the world. Despite the quarterly rise, the British economy, Europe's third-biggest behind Germany and France, is still around 3.3 percent smaller than at its peak in the first three months of 2008.

Still, the increase will foster hopes that the U.K. economy can now post sustained increases in outputs following a three-year period when it largely flat-lined despite record low interest rates and a big stimulus program from the Bank of England. The coalition government that was formed after the 2010 general election has made deficit-reduction the primary focus of its goals but the austerity measures that have been pursued have weighed on economic activity. The next election is expected in May 2015.

"Britain is on the mend, but we've got to stick with the plan because there's still a long way to go," British finance minister George Osborne told Sky News.

Excluding last summer's boost from the London Olympic Games, the quarterly rise was the strongest in almost two years, according to Chris Williamson, the chief economist at Markit.com.

"Prospects look good for a continuation of the recovery in the third quarter, with consumers and businesses both helping drive the upturn," he said.

There have been some false dawns before and economists urged caution.

Vicky Redwood of Capital Economics said the British economy still faces headwinds, with pay levels falling for many, bank lending flat and the government pursuing austerity measures designed to get the British public finances back into shape.

"Of course, we shouldn't get too carried away," she said. "Even a 0.6 percent quarterly rise is fairly mediocre after such a deep recession."

Nonetheless, the increase in GDP will likely give the U.K. government a bit of breathing space as it continues with its multi-year austerity prescription. And critics say that despite the improvement in overall growth, many people in Britain are failing to see an improvement in their living standards.

"It's a measure of how poor the economy is faring that this level of growth is being welcomed," said Frances O'Grady, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress, the umbrella body for the country's trade unions. "We remain stuck in the slowest recovery for a century."

The International Monetary Fund has suggested that the government might want to reconsider the pace of its austerity measures to help the economy, whose output was worth 1.4 trillion pounds ($2.1 trillion) in 2012.

If the second quarter trend continues for the year, Britain's annualized growth rate would be around 2.5 percent, similar to those that have existed in the United States for a while now.

"This is going to plan for the government," said James Carrick, a U.K. economist for the financial services company, Legal & General. "We're getting decent growth despite the austerity programs."

China indicts ex-politician Bo Xilai for graft

BEIJING ? Disgraced Chinese politician Bo Xilai was indicted Thursday on charges of corruption, accepting bribes and abuse of power, state media reported, moving China's biggest political scandal in years toward closure.

The indictment paves the way for a trial, more than a year after Bo dropped from sight in one of China's biggest-ever political scandals.

The Xinhua News Agency said the indictment was handed over Thursday by prosecutors in the eastern city of Jinan to the city's intermediate court. That indicates the trial will take place in the city soon, although the report did not say when.

Bo, the former party boss of the southwestern megacity of Chongqing, was expelled from the party in September and accused of massive corruption, illicit sexual affairs and abetting the cover-up of a murder by his wife.

Bo's ouster in the spring of last year and the investigation into his family presented the Communist Party leadership with its ugliest public scandal in nearly two decades. It exposed the bare-knuckled infighting that the secretive leadership prefers to hide and affirmed an already skeptical public's dim view about corrupt dealings in the party.

The allegations leveled against Bo in September dated back more than a decade, including abuse of power, bribe taking and improper relations with several women ? banned by the party because they are considered an inducement to corruption.

Bo was also accused of involvement in the cover-up of his wife's murder of a British businessman, which was instrumental in triggering his downfall.

One of China's most ambitious and best-known politicians, Bo was brought down last year after a trusted aide fled to a U.S. consulate disclosing the murder.

Bo was dismissed as party chief of Chongqing; his wife, Gu Kailai, was given a suspended death sentence after confessing to the murder; and the aide, Chongqing police chief Wang Lijun, received a 15-year prison term for initially covering up the murder and other misdeeds.

Energy Department nominee struggled with financial management at NASA

Elizabeth Robinson, the woman President Obama has named to make the Energy Department?s oft-criticized contracting more efficient, is leaving behind a trail of spending questions in her past job as NASA?s chief financial officer.

A Washington Times review of NASA inspector general reports finds the space agency struggled to achieve austerity under Ms. Robinson?s financial leadership, as cost overruns grew sixfold from $50 million in 2009 to $315 million in 2012.

SPECIAL COVERAGE: Energy and Environment

?Cost increases and schedule delays on NASA?s projects are longstanding issues for the agency,? the space agency?s internal watchdog reported last year.

Ongoing changes in the agency?s mission also led to billions being spent on projects that were later canceled, such as the Constellation Program and the Ares V launch vehicle that were designed to replace the space shuttle. Taxpayers spent an estimated $10 billion on shuttle replacement before it was scrapped in 2010.

The agency also has been dinged for smaller amounts of wasteful spending that provided some simple yet powerful symbols for taxpayer frustration.

Audits conducted during Ms. Robinson?s tenure as CFO uncovered that NASA spent an average of $66 per person per day for light refreshments at conferences, shelled out $1.5 million to develop a video game to replicate astronauts? experiences and reimbursed employees $1.4 million for tuition dating to 2006 for degrees unrelated to their NASA jobs.

Ms. Robinson did not return a call seeking comment, and NASA, White House and Energy Department officials did not return repeated phone calls and email messages seeking comment on Ms. Robinson?s track record as NASA?s chief financial officer.

Mr. Obama nominated Ms. Robinson, a former White House budget official, this month to the job of Energy Department undersecretary for management and performance, filling one of the top jobs under new Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. In her role, Ms. Robinson will be responsible for improving the management and efficiency of the department?s contracting and programs, including the much-criticized environmental management efforts involving the cleanup of old nuclear sites, Mr. Moniz told employees last week.

The energy secretary emphasized that Ms. Robinson?s role was specifically to improve the department?s contracting, spending and program management. ?Right, wrong or indifferent in terms of how we are viewed, we?ve got to pick up our game in terms of management and performance,? Mr. Moniz told employees.

Separately, NASA?s own website credits Ms. Robinson for her stewardship of the budget.

?Through her leadership, Robinson ensures the financial health of the organization, including responsibility for ensuring that NASA resources are effectively employed toward the achievement of NASA?s strategic plan,? the NASA biography for its CFO says.

NASA?s inspector general, however, routinely gave the space agency poor marks for efficiency during Ms. Robinson?s tenure. An audit this spring, in fact, found NASA didn?t even know how much it had spent on information technology security and couldn?t account for all of its computer equipment because it was so decentralized in spending.

?While other federal agencies are moving toward a centralized IT structure under which a senior manager has ultimate decision authority over IT budgets and resources, NASA continues to operate under a decentralized model that relegates decision making about critical IT issues to numerous individuals across the agency,? the inspector general reported in June. ?As a result, NASA?s current IT governance model weakens accountability and does not ensure that IT assets across the agency are cost effective and secure.?

NASA officials promised to improve the IT spending after the stinging report, but often have tried to justify their cost overruns by blaming the unique challenges of exploring space.

Ms. Robinson did, however, get good grades for record-keeping. The NASA inspector general said the agency?s financial documents were organized and complete ? a marked improvement from before her tenure when inspectors said they often couldn?t audit the department because of problems with paperwork.

Britain?s daft plan to block porn is no example for Canada

Here at Maclean's, we appreciate the written word. And we appreciate you, the reader. We are always looking for ways to create a better user experience for you and wanted to try out a new functionality that provides you with a reading experience in which the words and fonts take centre stage. We believe you'll appreciate the clean, white layout as you read our feature articles. But we don't want to force it on you and it's completely optional. Click "View in Clean Reading Mode" on any article if you want to try it out. Once there, you can click "Go back to regular view" at the top or bottom of the article to return to the regular layout.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has just?announced one of the grandest censorship schemes ever attempted. His goal is to filter the entire Internet of pornography, for all Britons save those who request it:

?By the end of this year, when someone sets up a new broadband account, the settings to install family-friendly filters will be automatically selected. If you just click ?next? or ?enter,? then the filters are automatically on.?

National Post columnist Barbara Kay was quick to?chime?in with her approval. ??The U.K.?s example,? she wrote, ?is worth following.?

In fanciful language, Kay decries modern pornography, which unlike the chaste erotica of yore does not depict what she deems ?normative? sex, but instead a troubling ?range of human sexual lubricity and depravity.? Anointing herself an expert on juvenile masturbators, she instructs us that ?contrary to what one might assume, (kids) are not watching for arousal, but as a guide to their own future actual performance.?

I get it: Kay hates porn. Or, at least, she hates modern porn, citing a preference for 19th century naughty postcards. I won?t quibble with her predilections, but I will say that today?s fare offers something for everyone. Pre-Internet, horny teens were served up one-size-fits-all sexuality by any dirty magazine swiped from a 7-Eleven. This ?normative? sex was straight sex between macho men and skinny white women. Whether kids seek porn to get off or to get educated ? isn?t it both? ? I?m glad the full ?range of depravity? is available.

Many won?t agree. Many parents don?t want kids watching any kind of porn. Many share Kay?s hatred of modern porn. There?s much to hate about it. All that is fine, but it?s not the issue.

The issue is technological. It?s much more interesting to discuss sex than computers, but I?m afraid there?s no way to avoid engagement with the basic practical impossibility of any porn-filtration scheme.

You simply can?t block all Internet porn, and you can?t avoid blocking things that aren?t porn when you try. Whether a filter uses blacklists or keywords or image analysis to hunt down fleshy pixels, it will always be fooled by porn that wants to fool it, and it will always result in false positives: content that an algorithm classifies as porn when it isn?t. Even if the failure rate is tiny (and it never is), this margin of error will always be large enough to render the filter useless for its intended purpose while massively destructive in terms of collateral damage.

It?s the Internet, after all. There are billions of pages. ?If a filter misses a fraction of a per cent, that could easily constitute 1 million pages of accessible porn, enough of a selection to ensure kids who want smut will find it. Meanwhile, if the filter incorrectly blocks a fraction of a per cent, the government will have accidentally censored 1 million pages of non-pornographic free expression.

(And it might not be accidental. When Australia?s government tried to filter porn in 2007, its secret blacklist, later leaked, was found to?include non-pornographic sites containing political criticism.)

I?m not comfortable with those numbers. ?I?m not comfortable with private companies that consult secret blacklists and run filters for governments that decide what I can and can?t see.

I?m not even convinced we have a problem.

Whitney Bank sells Houston branches to credit union

Chris Curry

Randy Gartz, Houston market president for Whitney Bank.

A Houston-area credit union has agreed to buy seven of eight branches that Whitney Bank had planned to close, according to statements from both financial institutions.

Lake Jackson-based Texas Dow Employees Credit Union said in a statement Monday it?s slated to rake in about $34 million in loans and about $30 million in deposits when it acquires the Whitney branches from the New Orleans-based bank?s parent company, Hancock Holding Co. (Nasdaq: HBHC).

Gulfport, Miss.-based Hancock in May announced plans to shutter eight of its 14 branches in Houston by the end of the year, and overall the $19 billion-asset bank company aimed to close about 40 branches across its footprint in the southeastern U.S.

The deal for the branches is expected to close by the end of the year.

Whitney Bank was the 22nd-largest bank in Houston last year with about $730 million in local deposits, according to Charlottesville, Va.-based SNL Financial LC. Meanwhile, the $2 billion-asset TDECU is the largest credit union in the region, according to the HBJ?s annual list of the largest credit unions in Houston.

Carl Icahn readies a major Twitter surprise

Icahn, whose Twitter handle is @Carl_C_Icahn, will reveal his next big investment idea on the social network, according to CNBC contributor Karen Finerman, a hedge fund manager and acquaintance of the investor who spoke to him via phone today.

The timing of the idea reveal is uncertain, according to their conversation. But Icahn did say it would be presented like a "treasure hunt" with clues given first, according to Finerman.

Icahn did not immediately return a call for comment.

The use of Twitter by the legendary investor would be a giant step forward for the seven year-old social platform, which has gained a big following by the investment community, but has yet to be used by someone of this stature to reveal a stock pick.

Icahn joined Twitter a little over a month ago, but has used it mostly to link to articles, wish a happy Fourth of July and promote his appearance at CNBC's Delivering Alpha Conference.

(Read more: Icahn at Delivering Alpha)

Most big name investors such as Warren Buffett, David Einhorn, Leon Cooperman and Daniel Loeb reveal their new ideas in filings or at expensive investment conferences.

Warren Buffett made a big splash about three months ago when he joined Twitter under the handle @WarrenBuffett, but has only tweeted three times since then.

Social platforms are already moving markets these days, prompting an April announcement by the SEC allowing companies to announce non-public information through social media in compliance with Regulation Fair Disclosure.

The most infamous cases that drove the SEC's decision were Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk's (@elonmusk) tweet last December that the company was cash flow positive during a certain week in November, and Netflix CEO Reed Hasting's Facebook post last July discussing the one billion video hours viewed by subscribers during the previous month.

Many Wall Street firms still do not allow their employees to access Twitter on their work computers, leading many to try to follow on their phones and risk getting in trouble with compliance officers.

They may want to change that policy soon because one of the richest men on Wall Street is about to rock the social world.

Apple tests larger screen sizes for iPhone and tablets

Software manufacturer Apple is reportedly testing larger screens for its iPhones and iPads.

According to the Fox News, officials at the company's suppliers said that Apple has asked for prototype smartphone screens larger than 4 inches and has also asked for screen designs for a new tablet device measuring slightly less than 13 inches diagonally.

Currently the screen size of iPhone 5 is 4 inches, and iPad has a 9.7- inch screen while the iPad Mini has a 7.9- inch screen.

The report said that Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter.

Recently, there have been speculations that Apple would delay the launch of its latest iPhone 5S from September or October to the end of the year owing to change in its screen size from 4-inches to 4.3-inches. (ANI)

New Nexus 7 press shots leaked, spotted in Best Buy ad

New Nexus 7 press shots leaked

The new Nexus 7's official unveiling might still be a few days away, but impatient tablet fans can get a peek right now: @evleaks seems to have come across the alleged device's official press render. The image doesn't do much to confirm the 7-inch tablet's internal specifications, but what we can see matches previous leaks, giving us a clearer view of the device's rumored 5MP rear-facing camera and and a branded backside -- now lacking the dimples of the original. A pair of speakers can be seen on the rear's north and south ends and volume, power and a microphone input line the tablet's right edge.

On the front we can see an offset front-facing shooter, an underlining notification LED and what is most likely Android 4.3. Although the press shot doesn't reveal anything about the device's screen, a Best Buy ad featuring it pegs it as a 1,920 x 1,200 display, pricing the 16GB variant of the upcoming tablet at $229 --$40 less than the reported price of the slate's 32GB model. Phone Arena says the leaked ad is scheduled to run next week, placing the circular's promised Tuesday availability for the Nexus 7 on July 30th. We'll wait for Google to give us the full story on the 24th before jumping the gun, but if you just can't wait, feel free to ogle Best Buy's unreleased insert after the break.

Rules for Racism

Headshots of neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman (R) who has been charged with second-degree murder of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.

Handout photo by Reuters

You can also listen to William Saletan read this piece.

In the wake of the Trayvon Martin case, politicians are calling again for a national conversation on race. Previous attempts at this conversation have often broken down. Let?s learn from our mistakes. With the help of my colleagues, here are some suggestions for thinking and talking about race and racism. I?m white, and so are the vast majority of my colleagues, so most of this advice is written from and to a white perspective. (For a black perspective, I recommend the Root?s excellent Race Manners column, written by Jen?e Desmond-Harris.) But I hope everyone will find something useful in it.

1. Don?t freak out. When somebody accuses you of racism, it?s natural to get angry and deny it. Relax. We?ll never be able to talk about this stuff if racism is always a firing offense. Treat racism the way you?d treat sexism. You can have sexist moments or sexist blinders without being a pig. Inadvertent sexism is something you?re allowed to work on. Racism should be the same. The way you?re talking about that ?nice African-American gentleman?? Yeah, that?s a little bit racist. Don?t get defensive. Just understand why and try to do better next time.

2. Treat each person as an individual. Don?t tie yourself in knots trying to be politically correct. There?s no special way you?re supposed to treat this or that group. Just remember what Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned 50 years ago: a nation in which people would be judged not ?by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.? That?s the ultimate principle. Resist inferences based on classification. Judge each person on his or her merits.

3. Practice what you preach. Nobody likes to be accused of racism. The best way to open hearts, eyes, and minds is to apply the same scrutiny to everyone, including yourself. If you want people to see racial bias in George Zimmerman?s reference to ?punks,? don?t rationalize Trayvon Martin?s use of ?cracker.? No, these terms aren?t equivalent. Yes, Zimmerman is the one who pulled the trigger. Yes, white-on-black racism dwarfs black-on-white racism. But if your goal is to persuade, get past the differences. Focus on shared failings, shared lessons, and shared rules.

4. Don?t pretend you?re perfect. If you?re racially colorblind, great. But it?s more likely that you?re human like the rest of us. Studies have documented pervasive, unconscious racial bias even among people with pure hearts. That?s understandable, given our history and the common tendency toward intergroup bias. To overcome this bias, you have to notice it. You don?t have to think about it all the time?that would make your interactions weird. But every now and then, reflect on things you?ve done or said. The seat you walked past on the bus, next to that woman. The way you tightened up as you passed that guy on the street. What was that about? Little by little, you?ll clean yourself up.

5. Be gentle and forgiving. People have been uncomfortable around race for a long time. Some will presume, accuse, rationalize, or deny.? Others will speak obtusely or ineptly. Resist the urge to rebuke them. Summon the grace to forgive. Don?t just correct people; change them. You?ll get your message across more effectively through kindness, good humor, and clear but friendly engagement than through confrontation. And by listening, you might learn.

6. Put yourself in the other person?s shoes. Did you hear President Obama on Friday? He talked about the Martin case. Here?s a bit of what he said:

?There are very few African American men in this country who haven't had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store.?That includes me. There are very few African American men who haven't had the experience of walking across the street and hearing the locks click on the doors of cars. ? There are very few African Americans who haven't had the experience of getting on an elevator and a woman clutching her purse nervously and holding her breath until she had a chance to get off.?

UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will fight John Moraga on Saturday, but he had a bigger task to take care of over the weekend. Johnson's wife gave birth to their first child, a baby boy. "Mighty Mouse" wasted no time in slipping a UFC glove on his newborn son after he was born. Johnson shared the picture, but then had to get back to work with his fight just days away.

Johnson will get more time to hang with the little guy after his fight. Do you think he'll still have the belt? Speak up on Twitter or Facebook.

Joss Whedon talks comics, 'Avengers,' 'SHIELD'

SAN DIEGO (AP) ? Joss Whedon is the busiest man at Comic-Con.

The multihyphenate visionary talked television on Friday, film on Saturday and rounded out the four-day geek extravaganza meeting with fans and talking with reporters Sunday at the Dark Horse Comics booth about a new season of his Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book series, the possibility of a "Serenity" title, and the dual realities of the Marvel film and television worlds.

After saying he can't give too many details about what's going on in all those projects, Whedon did give The Associated Press some insight in a quick interview as Comic-Con swirled around him and fans snapped his picture from afar.

AP: What can you tell us about the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" story?

Whedon: I can't say much about what's going to happen. We're wrapping up Season 9 of "Buffy" and "Angel & Faith," and we've already sort of got a road map for Season 10, which I'm really excited about. Every season we get to come in and find and see a new aspect of what it's like for her and what it's like for anyone that's around her age that's going through life trying to figure it out. She's in her 20s, so she's trying to figure out what the hell she is. We've asked a lot of questions over the last two seasons. Season 10 I'm excited about because it has some very interesting answers for some of them. I can't really say. There's going to be a lot of back and forth between the comics ? not so much that if you only like one you won't get what's going on, because I hate that. But they do share a universe, all these characters, and their ability to sort of show up in each other's books is part of the huge fun. And the fact that Giles is now a young boy just makes me laugh and laugh.

AP: You have so much going on in film and TV, you could easily leave the comic books behind. Why do you keep doing them?

Whedon: Dark Horse came to me many years ago and said, "How do you feel about doing new stories with Buffy," and the show had been over for two or three years, and I realized I really really wanted to. Just writing those voices again, remembering that mission statement of let's tell the story of this girl and the trials of having power and trying to keep her friends together. It moves me. I love this medium. I've read comics my whole life. The idea that we got to create our own little comic book universe, it's very heady. I'm very grateful.

AP: Do you have plans to bring "Serenity" out as a comic book?

Whedon: That's the hope, but there's nothing official yet. It's patchy. "Buffy," the way it lent itself to a musical, lends itself to comic books in a very simple way. "Serenity," you've got to have the exact right sort of notion before I'll even let it go forward. Because it was taken away so fast, I was always leery of getting it wrong.

AP: You could revisit the war, take the characters into the future ...

Whedon: There's a lot you can do. I'm a little busy. I have some other stuff to do. But I have some ideas.

AP: Can the new "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD" television series thrive without the presence of already-known superheros from the Marvel universe?

Whedon: The thing is SHIELD itself is kind of an espionage book. They're all basically spies. Just the idea of these people's lives was fascinating in all its aspects, so if it was a situation where we had to have a superhero of the week, I would never have done the show. That would get old super fast. It's part of the Marvel collective, but there's also a lot more: The idea of dealing with not just the new technology, the alien stuff, and just regular people who are caught up in the wake of this world; the idea that "The Avengers" changed the game for the Marvel cinematic universe, which SHIELD is now a part of. The whole world suddenly found out there were superheros and aliens and all kinds of wonderful, terrible things, and that's going to have different repercussions for everybody. So there's a lot of different ways to approach every episode."

AP: Samuel L. Jackson told us yesterday he can't believe he's not involved in the new TV series as "SHIELD" Director Nick Fury. Do you see a role for him in the show?

Whedon: We would love to have Sam in the house. If we could work it out, we'd do it in a heartbeat. He's Sam. What are we, new? But we also have the movies and we have TV and we need to make sure there's some crossover, but not so much that people go, "Well, I don't need to see that movie. I saw it on TV." If we do that (Marvel Studios President) Kevin Feige is going to come after me with a pitchfork.

AP: You brought Agent Coulson back to life for the TV series after his apparent death in "The Avengers." Is it possible he'll return for the film's sequel as well?

Whedon: He could. Right now it's not something I'm pursuing because I have so much going on in "Avengers" 2. Finding out that Coulson is alive would be an entire B story. And I already have too much movie. That's better than the other thing.
